3A 4x8 Molecular Sieve is a multiple purpose, highly porous, high capacity alkali metal alumino-silicate in the spherical form. It is the potassium form of the Type A crystal structure with pore diameters of approximately 3Å. The 3Å pore opening will allow moisture to be adsorbed but will exclude unsaturated hydrocarbons and highly polar alcohols such as methanol and ethanol. It has high mass transfer efficiency and durability.

Molecular sieves are crystalline metal aluminosilicates having a 3-dimensional interconnecting network of silica and alumina tetrahedra. Natural water of hydration is removed from this network by heating to produce uniform cavities which selectively adsorb molecules of a specific size. The 3A form is made by substituting potassium cations for the inherent sodium ions of the 4A structure reducing the effective pore size to ~3A… excluding diameter 3A… e.g. ethane. The 4 to 8-mesh type is normally used in gas-phase applications. Molecular sieves are considered a universal drying agent in polar and nonpolar media.

3α-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase, Microorganism (3α-HSD) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-ketosteroids into 3α-hydroxy compounds. Significant in androgen DHT inactivation, it converts DHT into 3α-androstanediol.
